Marc Seguin

As a teenager, I was fascinated by martial arts. In 1972, I signed in at the local Karate club under John Ducharme. A few years later, I moved to Montreal for six months to study with Master Chong Lee, at which point I realized how little I knew. I also studied kick-boxing in Ottawa with Master George Sylvain. In 1975, I joined the boxing club for a few years as an amateur boxer. From 1980 to 1989 I trained and studied on my own at home. In 1989, Aikido became the path to follow for the next four years. At the same time I also began to study taiji with Michael Babin. From 1994, the internal arts, especially taijiquan became my main focus. I currently study and practice the Yang Style.

My gratitude goes to a great number of instructors and masters that I had the opportunity to study with, either as a student or a participant in on going classes and privately, and through workshops and seminars - Michael Babin, Sam Masich, Dr. Yang-Jwing Ming, Master Dong Zhen Chen, Master Chen Zhonghua, Tim Cartmell, Don Dickie Sensei, Saotome Sensei, Mary Heiny Sensei, Yamada Sensei, just to name a few. Each have made an important difference in his/her own way, whether it was in taiji or otherwise.

In 1995, I began teaching taijiquan at a few locations in Ottawa. I have been at the present location for six years. Teaching has permitted me to deepen my understanding, urged me in my research and given me an opportunity to share my acquired but limited knowledge. I am first and foremost a student and I truly believe that teaching and learning are a part of each other and one cannot exist without the other.

I am a member of the Canadian Taijiquan Federation and of the International Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan Association.

I would like to thank each and every one of my students, past and present that have given me the opportunity to share some of this knowledge. I find it both inspiring and challenging, but most of all a humbling and rewarding experience. I have the best students, I truly believe this. Thank you all.

Testimonials

« 3 years ago, friends told us about Taiji, its philosophy and its health benefits. This raised our curiosity and we decided to join a Taiji club in Ottawa. We have never regretted this decision. In 3 years learning Taiji with Marc, we have learnt a lot and continue to learn every class. Taiji is not just a "sport", a "martial art" or "gym" exercice, it can also be a way of living, a way of understanding your body and your environment. The choice is yours. Taiji will definitely change your life forever! »
Marie

« When I started Taiji, I was suffering from recurring back problems. I was looking for a type of physical activity that would help relaxing body tensions and strenghten my support muscles. I was also looking for an activity that I could easily practice at home. Taiji was a revelation. Not only is my back fine now but I have discovered that Taiji is more than a sport. I definitely recommend Taiji to everyone. And Marc is a great and tremendously patient teacher. »
Mikaël

« There are many valid reasons to learn Taiji. Qigong and taiji practice gives me this sense of inner balance. It has made me realize the importance of mind/body connection. I especially enjoy my Saturday morning class. It starts my day just right. Johanne. »
